More About Our Surgeon

Dr. Satish Bhat is presently an Associate Professor in Plastic Surgery at Yenepoya Medical College and Consultant Plastic Surgeon based at Arogya Specialty Clinic, Falnir, Mangalore.

Over the past decade, he has performed about 3000 Reconstructive, Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery procedures in a wide variety of problems.

He finished his schooling in Pune and joined Govt medical College, Pune to complete his MBBS in 1996 and MS in General Surgery in 2001. He joined the prestigious Grant Medical College, Mumbai in 2002 for training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

He has the unique distinction of qualifying as a Diplomate of the National Board In 2 Specialities - General Surgery & Plastic Surgery. He has also qualified as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was conferred an MRCS in 2004.

After finishing his M.Ch., he gained further experience in advanced Plastic Surgery procedures - from Ganga Hospital Coimbatore in Trauma Reconstructive Surgery, from the Tata Cancer Hospital Mumbai in Cancer Reconstructive Surgery and The Prince of Wales Hospital Hong Kong in the fields of Burns Surgery, Microsurgery and Cosmetic Surgery.

His training over the years puts him in a unique position to help with certain problems:

  1. Cosmetic Surgery
  2. Wounds of any type-simple or complicated;
  3. Hand Surgery
  4. Face Surgery and
  5. Skin Surgery.
  6. Vascular Surgery and

He has presented and published scientific papers on forums locally, nationally and internationally. He has been an invited guest speaker on many occasions at programs organized by IMA, Rotary and associations of various medical specialties including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology and Dermatology.

His additional interests include mainly outdoor activities. He has done 3 month long courses in Mountaineering in the Himalayas; from the renowned Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi. After the Basic training in 1997, he was selected for training in Advanced Mountaineering in 2000 and has reached upto height of 20000 feet in the Himalayas. He has trekked extensively in the Sahyadris for over 10years. Over the last 2 years he has started kayaking in the rivers around Mangalore, which he learnt at Hong Kong.

Laboratory Research work :

  1. I set up a microvascular training laboratory at the Tata Department of Plastic Surgery.
  2. I worked with the Late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Head Department of reconstructive Surgery, Tata Memorial Hospital for cancer, Mumbai Involved in the cadaver dissection after dye injection to evaluate vascular pattern in limbs
  3. Involved in development of a Tissue Oximeter using NIRS (Near Infra-Red Spectrophotometer) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
